This Award has been specifically designed to equip students with theoretical knowledge, understanding and the applicable skills for a successful employment trajectory within the world of business. The overarching aim of the Award is to demonstrate student’s competence in applying learnt skills, knowledge and professional development when working directly in high performing business teams and eventually managerial position. 

The programme provides the required experiences to link theory to practice, developing skills and competencies as well as communication qualities and attitudes which are essential for business management. During the course, students will be encouraged to engage in critical and reflective discussions related to effective business communications. Furthermore, students will also be able to make use of the practical tools related to different aspects of communication management.  Knowledge: Learners will be exposed to the theoretical and practical features of Business Communication. Students begin with an introduction to Information Literacy, Academic English, prior to undertaking the role of Intra/Inter-personal skills and communication. The guiding principles of business management are presented, prior to exposing students to the role of Digital Literacy within the place of business.  Skills: Learners will develop an awareness and understanding of the external and internal factors that affect effective business communication, comprehend the importance and complexity of intra/inter-personal communication.  Competencies: Learners will be able to exercise self-management within the business industry, implement specific communication strategies, confidently use a myriad of tools to monitor information and digital literacies, becoming competent and fully aware of the importance of communication within business management. Target Audience & Occupation    This Award is suitable for individuals who wish to work, or who are currently working within a business environment and are looking to further their knowledge. This course provides basic working knowledge of the business management sector, therefore targets individuals who wish to pursue a career in management. On completion of the Award, successful learners can apply for employment within the business management sector and will have benefited from this up-skilling learning experience.   Students will be able to undertake further studies within Business Management, work towards a promotion in the current occupation and/or simply aim at personal and professional development.  Successful students can progress to Level 5 qualifications on completion of this course (suggested progression would be to MQF Level 5 Diploma in Business Management).

Academic English – EQF/MQF Level 4 – 20 ECTS

  1. The use of different communication methods (e.g., telephone calls, emails, etc.);
  2. The purpose and importance of academic writing;
  3. The difference between academic integrity and dishonesty (plagiarism, fabrication, cheating, professional misconduct);
  4. The development of academic writing and voice;
  5. The importance of reading literacy and the various modes of reading;
  6. The purpose and utility of taking notes;
  7. Different forms of written assignments (essay, reflective, essay, short reviews, short answers) and their expectations;
  8. How to use structuring techniques (format, paragraphs, content) for effective written assignments;
  9. The benefits of planning for examinations and how to manage stress; 

 

Assessment Criteria

This module will be assessed through class contribution (10%), an assignment (30%), a presentation (20%) and an exam (40%).

Inter and Intra Personal Skills – EQF/MQF Level 4 – 15 ECTS

  1. The Communication Model and related techniques;
  2. The Assertiveness-Aggressiveness-Submissiveness Communication Model;
  3. The Upward/Downward/Horizontal Communication Techniques;
  4. Learning Styles and Learning Techniques (Kolb)
  5. The Control Theory;
  6. Identification of benefits of developing and maintaining effective team working;
  7. The team-building process (Forming, Storming, Norming, Performing – Tuckman Model) and the role of the leader;
  8. The components of a high-performance team based on the Woodcock Model

 

Assessment Criteria

This module will be assessed through group presentation (40%) and an individual assignment (60%).

Principles of Business & Management – EQF/MQF Level 4 – 15 ECTS

  1. Be responsible for providing a direct and indirect contribution toward the management and functioning of organizations;
  2. Carry out tasks by applying the right tools of marketing and reflect on the value gained;
  3. Collaborate with management on monitoring how consumer decision-making varies with the type of buying decision;
  4. Understand the role of management accounts and how they benefit the organization;
  5. Understand the use of economics and how they affect the management and business industry;
  6. Collaborate with others effectively;

 

Assessment Criteria

This module will be assessed through group presentation (40%) and an individual assignment (60%).

Digital Literacy – EQF/MQF Level 4 – 10 ECTS

  1. Manage and recognize what an effective digital footprint entails and why it is important;
  2. Carry out tasks using netiquette as a code of behaviour in online communication;
  3. Carry our research and access information using digital tools in an organized and effective way;

 

Assessment Criteria

This module shall be assessed through a practical assessment (100%)   All modules are mandatory to qualify for this complete 60 ECTS Level 4 Award. Students who fail to pass/complete all mandatory units will be given exit Awards from Avanza Training Academy, detailing the specific modules achieved and the number of ECTS/ECVETs gained.

  1. Identify areas of improvement through the use of self-assessment;
  2. Undertake further studies in management;
  3. Follow an appropriate and effective strategy for self-directed learning;

As part of the enrolment process, all applicants will be assessed via Avanza’s interview board. All entries will be assessed on an individual basis.  Learners are required to be 16+ years of age, possess either;

  • Secondary Education Certificate, 4 O-levels (Grade 5 or better) in Maths, English and another 2 subjects or equivalent;

OR

  • Mature Students as per Avanza Academy’s Internal Quality Assurance document. Individuals applying under the clause of mature students may be asked to sit for an interview or aptitude test prior to the admission to the course.

Each module will be assessed based on a mixture of formative and summative assessments methods; Formative; Individual/Group Presentations, Discussions, Classroom Observations. All formative assessment methods will occur during each module and Tutors will provide students with on-going feedback throughout the course. Summative; End of Module Exam (where applicable) Module Essay, End of Course Practical Assessment. All summative assessment methods will occur at the end of each module and will evaluate the student learning.
